Golden Hiking Autumn!

In autumn, when a monotonous grey has taken over our cities and the mood of its people, a dream image will appear before your eyes and won't be scared away: The image of the beguiling silence of lonely alpine pastures and colouring larch forests, high above the thick foggy fields of the Upper Italian lowlands and yet towered over by the steeply rising rocky pinnacles of the Carnic Alps. At midday, sharply drawn under a steel-blue autumn sky, the setting sun bathes them in an almost magical golden light, fed by the larches glowing like lighted torches in the evening light. Our mountain world and the Carnic Alps in particular have their magical moments at any time of year. However, the golden light and silence of autumn are particularly enchanting.

On many mountain pastures, the shepherds and their cows have already migrated down into the valley by mid-September and therefore no longer offer overnight accommodation from mid-September. However, we have put together a route for you on which you can still experience the wonderful world described above along the ‘Milchstraße on the Karnischer Höhenweg’ between mid-September and mid-October - with all the services that the official information and booking centre for the ‘Milchstraße on the Karnischer Höhenweg’ has to offer. So escape the grey of the cities, end your hiking year in the Carnic Alps in peace and quiet and make plans for the new year in the crystal-clear mountain air!
