Short tour to a panoramic two-thousand metre peak in the eastern Carnic Alps, from the Gailtal valley. The mountain on the border with Italy (Kanaltal) offers an eye-catching view, with the nearby Julian Alps to the south and the Gailtal Alps to the north.

Directions
On the south motorway (A2) to the Arnoldstein exit and on the Gailtal road (B111) westwards to Feistritz, via the mountain road 9 km (7.5 km of which is gravel road) to the Feistritzer Alm, 1722 m.

HIKE UP: From the Feistritzer Alm, keep right to the trail sign at 1735 m (Oisternig 1 hour) and cross a cirque on trail 482 to the ridge at 1854 m. On the east ridge, first uphill through mountain pine lanes, then in open terrain to the summit cross of the east summit at 2035 m (315 metres of ascent and a brisk 35 minutes).

TRANSITION and DESCENT: Along the border ridge to the west, a little up and down and to the western summit of the Oisternig 2052 m. From there descend to the nearby war positions at 2025 m and to a fork in the path at 2000 m. From there turn right along path 482 over the southern ridge to the starting point. 65 metres and 45 minutes.

A total of 380 metres of ascent and a good 1 1/4 hours walking time at a brisk pace.
